A junk removal crew in Ontario usually charges by how much of the truck your stuff fills. In 2026 that's roughly $107 to $396 for a small load, $396 to $600 for a medium load and $600 to $1,099 for a full truck. Most single items cost about $30 to $300, and a piano more. Renting a bin and filling it yourself usually costs $350 to $475 for a week in the Toronto area, and about $369 to $389 in Niagara. Prices are before HST and come from Ontario companies' published prices, which we checked on 21 October 2026. City curbside pickup and drop-off depots cost much less if you can use them.

In Toronto, the City picks up oversized items on garbage day.
In Niagara, the Region picks up up to four large items when you book ahead. Drop-off depots are the cheapest option for a carload.

Junk removal or a bin?
| Junk removal | Bin rental | |
|---|---|---|
| Who loads it | The crew | You |
| Best for | A few big items, a one-day clean-out, no space for a bin | A renovation, a long clean-out, heavy material like drywall or shingles |
| How it's priced | By how much of the truck you fill | By bin size, days and weight |
| Space needed | None | Room on your driveway for the bin |
For a big job you can load yourself, a bin can cost less: about $350 to $475 for a week, against $600 to $1,099 for a full junk truck. For a few heavy items and no time or help, junk removal is simpler.
Cheaper options from your city
Toronto
- Oversized items on garbage day: the City picks up oversized items set out beside your garbage bin on your collection day. Leave half a metre between items. An annual fee charged to every house covers it. Remove doors from fridges and ovens first.
- Drop-off depots: garbage and renovation waste costs $189.86 a tonne, with a $19 minimum that covers the first 100 kg and a $40 deposit on every load. Recycling, metal, yard waste and mattresses cost $142.40 a tonne. Household hazardous waste and electronics are free to drop off.
- Not at the curb: construction and renovation waste and hazardous waste go to a depot or a private company.

Niagara Region
- Large item pickup: book online or by phone at least two business days ahead. The Region picks up up to four large items per pickup, for single-family homes and buildings of two to six units. Items go to the curb by 7 a.m. It isn't meant for the extra garbage from a move or a full clean-out.
- Appliances and metal: take them to a Regional drop-off depot or a scrap metal company.

What moves the price
- Volume. The more of the truck or bin you fill, the more you pay.
- Weight. Bins include a set weight. Concrete, brick, soil, shingles and drywall get heavy fast.
- Special items. Mattresses, electronics, tires and fridges or freezers often carry recycling or refrigerant fees.
- Access. Long carries, many stairs or taking things apart can add to a junk removal price.
- Rental length. Extra days on a bin cost extra, about $20 a day in the Niagara example above.
What can't go
Neither a junk crew nor a bin will usually take paint, solvents, chemicals, propane tanks, fuel or motor oil. Bins also commonly refuse tires, batteries, electronics, appliances that still hold refrigerant, and liquids. Take hazardous waste and electronics to your city's drop-off depot: in Toronto, that's free.
Tips
- Ask for the price including HST and disposal, in writing.
- For a bin, ask how much weight is included and the cost per extra tonne.
- If the bin has to sit on the street or the boulevard, ask your city whether you need a permit.
- Sort out donations and scrap metal first. Less volume means a smaller load.
- Book the city pickup when the items qualify. It's the cheapest option.
